So... What should I say? Well first of all, I'm Alyssa from New Jersey. I'm 18 years old and my birthday is June 3. I'm officially an alumni of Bergenfield High School, where I was really involved in the music department [but we'll get to that in a just a second]. I'm starting my first semester of college at William Paterson University in the fall as a Music Education major.
High school activities: Marching Band [06-07 Drum Major], Color Guard, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir [06-07 Soprano Section Leader + Student Director], Vocal Ensemble, Bergen County Choir [2007], Region I Mixed Choir [2007], Tri-M Music Honor Society [05-06 Vice President, 06-07 President], National Honor Society.
So, yeah. As you can see, I'm all about music. I want to get my degree in Music Education and come back to Bergenfield to teach. My [now former] band director always kids around that he can't wait for me to graduate so he can quit and I can take his job. As much as I love band, though, I'd also love to teach choir. I was the Teacher Apprentice for Bergenfield's middle school choir director this year, which basically means I spent an hour at the middle school everyday and I got hands-on teaching experience, and I had a blast. Shouts to my period 2 and 3 choirs, I love you guys!
So, I was in the marching band. I spent all 4 years on color guard. The girls I met are the sisters that I never had. We spend all of our time together from June through November, and I love them all so much, even though I "abandoned" them =] lol. I was also the drum major this past year, which basically means I stood on the huge podium, yelled a lot, waved my hands around, and hoped people watched me. Ok, not exactly, but that's a pretty good generalization. I went to George N. Parks Drum Major Academy, also known as DMA. You'll hear me talk about it a lot, trust me. We were put into squads of 6 people, and our squad leader was my friend from Mahwah. It turned out the other people, 4 drum majors from 2 different schools, also lived in New Jersey, and we bonded instantly. Whenever we started the 15 minute walk to our practice field, we'd blast SexyBack by Justin Timberlake on one of the girls' portable iPod speakers, which is why we called ourselves Squad SexyBack. Shouts to Becky, Amanda, Danny, Melissa, and Kier. I MISS YOU GUYS!
I was in concert band, orchestra, and choir in high school also. I play the oboe and I sing Soprano 2. I was also in the honors band group, Wind Ensemble, and the honors choir group, Vocal Ensemble. I had a vocal solo in our annual Pops Concert this year, which was pretty awesome. I was also in County and Region chour for the first time this year. Thery were both really great experiences, and I miss all the people I met there [Diana, Ema, Kristin, and SAM!!!].
I really didn't do any activities other than music in high school. I was in the National Honor Society, but I didn't get too involved in it. I also love dancing, acting, reading, and just hanging out with my friends, who are AMAZING. I'd die if I didn't have them. I might be gone next year, but I know I'll never lose these people. They know too much about me, I'd have to kill them if we ever stopped being friends. Especially in the cases of Rolliene and Bruce... They know EVERYTHING. Well, almost ;] lol.
Andddddddd... That's pretty much it. If you want to know more, feel free to message me!
<3 always = Alyssa
