    Field Trip

Tuesday, May 6, 2008, 12:54 AM EST [General]

Last Friday my daughter's school went to a local roller skating rink (World On Wheels) for a field trip. I volunteered as a chaperon, and I must say I had a great time. Initially I wanted to go cause I loved skating as a kid and I wanted to see if I still had it in me. Well it was just like riding a bike. Once I put the skates on it was just like I was a kid again. I swerved in and out between kids who were having just as much as I was.

Working with new music, I always enjoy finding out what has people's attention. So it was no surprise when the kids began to scream for certain songs. Some songs that got major screams were Lil Mama's "Shawty Get Loose", Shawty Lo's "Dey Know", Mariah's "Touch My Body", and I was amazed that Soldier Boy "Crank Dat" was still a fav.

Even though I spent some of the time rolling around picking young kids up after they fell, I must say I had a great time.

    The Heart of the City

Monday, April 21, 2008, 01:19 PM EST [General]

I was privileged to see Jay Z & Mary J on their Heart of the City tour last Wed. The show was THE BOMB! I have to say that the fans were just as entertaining. The-Dream opened up (I see why he has been writing all this time and not performing), I gotta admit that I love his album though. His performance wasn't bad he just needs some work in the live performance area is all.

The show opened with both Jay Z & Mary coming on stage to Jay-Z's "Can't Knock The Hustle" (one of my favs). Then it was all about Mary. Her performance was great. I was on my feet the whole time. I love Mary J by the way. when she started to perform "Feel Like a Woman" from her latest cd it was all over for me. I was now singing as if I was in my car all by myself with the music turned up loud. It was the greatest. Then she did "Just Fine" this was a moment where I couldn't help but pay attention to folks behind me who CLEARLY loved this song.

After Mary's performance Jay Z comes to the stage, and the crowd...well they never sat down from Mary. Jigga comes out and it is on and poppin'. Hearing songs like "Roc Boys (And The Winner Is...)", from the American Gangster album, with a live band was so awesome. That wasn't the best part of of his set though. The best moment of Jay-Z's show was hearing the man, who was there in his business suit, in the row behind me sing word for word " I got 99 problems but a b*&ch ain't one! It was the highlight of my evening.

If you have never seen either of these artists perform they are definitely worth seeing at least one time. Even if you don't like the performance seeing the fans is priceless.
