She doesn’t know what she’s feeling
Or what would hurt more
Staying with the abuse
Or walking out the door
Another night
She sleeps alone
She tries to call him
On his phone
She made dinner
For their anniversary
But she wouldn’t eat without him
So now she’s just hungry
The plates still on the table
Her so sure he would show
But he’s 3 hours late
And the foods is too cold
She waits 2 more hours
Just staring at her plate
Sure he’s on his way just
Office kept him late
She crawls into bed
Curls up holding her knees
Its 4 in the morning
When he comes home and sees
The plates on the table
But all he sees is a mess
And her lying in her bed
Wearing her nice dress
He’s drunk out of his mind
And he’s mad it’s not clean
So he throws her out of bed
And starts to scream
She is his punching bag
As he lets out a kick
Leaving her with scars that may fade
But memories that stick
He has no idea that today
Makes 3 years of abuse
And she is finally starting to think
“What is the use?”
She decides she is leaving
For good the next day
But then in the morning
He begs her to stay
He promises change
And to never hit again
And always be home
Every night before ten
She unpacks her bags
Gets back up from her fall
Then catches her reflection
In a mirror on the wall
Her lip is all swollen
And her eye black and blue
She has bruises all over
Suddenly its all true
No more cover-ups
Even makeup can’t hide
The truth of what’s really
Going on inside
She’s leaving for good
He can’t change her mind
Finally he is powerless
And she know it is time

He received the locket as a gift from her

For their one year anniversary

He opened it up to find a picture of them

She said, “Now you will always remember me”

Then he boarded the plane for his business trip

As she drove home in tears

Knowing she wouldn’t live with him again

Until he came back in 2 years

She cried until it hurt

And then she cried some more

So she didn’t even notice

When the truck swerved towards the passenger door

She was killed on impact

And he felt it in his heart

But even the next flight home was too late

To save the life that was torn apart

And out a piece of paper fell

Unfamiliar handwriting

So small it was hard to read

They could just barely make out the sentence

“Never forget about me”
